Trisha on Rockland Breakwater - seven eighths of a mile to the Light at the end, this narrow granite barrier is almost hidden at high tide. Finished in 1888 to protect the harbor from the destructive north easters, it took 18 years to build and required 697,627 tons of granite, much of which came from nearby Vinalhaven Island.
