With a new Hotel under way and a new slogan of 'Its a Shore Thing' there appears to be a resurgence of this blue-collar beach town.

Earliest records of the town date from 1657, and yes, there was originally an apple orchard on the site.

In summertime daily Trains from Boston - since 1842 and Montreal - since 1853 have brought hordes of workes to enjoy the beach and the beach side accommodation which is a mixture of motel type holiday rentals built cheek by jowl with boarding houses and cottages.

The town had effectively 'Closed for the Season' when we visited, but from the sheer number of places offering accomodation it appears to be a place to avoid in the summer season.
